This is not a guide!
As you know, the Abyss is a repeating cycle of increasingly tougher levels, but they follow the same general structure each time. Basically, like this:
1. 3x monsters that sometimes stun when they hit
2. 3x monsters cast aoe dmg in round 3 or 4
3. 2x monsters, skillset varies
4. 2x monsters, one dps and one heal/shield
5. 1x boss, multi-hit every third round
6. 1x boss, aoe/shield
7. 1x big boss (Atrox/Ifrit/etc)
There is some variation to the above, but the idea is that you need a setup that can deal with a variety of threats.
My setup:
- Reaver - GM Decay, Drain Life, Primal Regrowth
- Defender - Steady Battle Line, Outcry, Time Reversal
- Earthkeeper - Swiftmend, Regenerate, Wisdom
- Assassin - GM Lacerate, GM Ambush, Primal Regrowth
General Strategy:
Round 1 - SBL, get at least one guy killed in first 2 turns, then Reaver can survive hits
Round 2 - Outcry, easy day after that
Round 3 - Time Reverse, Outcry or SBL as needed
Round 4 - Outcry or SBL as needed, don't kill heal/shield monster until all cooldowns are cooled down
Round 5 - Defend on every 3rd hit, SBL/Outcry only if necessary
Round 6 - Try to make it to first shield without SBL/Outcry, then use SBL after shield since dmg really ramps up
Round 7 - The big bosses use the same mechanic as wherever you see them in the game elsewhere, which drives your strategy
None of the rounds are especially tricky, it's mostly a gear/skill check. GM Lacerate was a big one, I'm anxious for GM Drain Life.
I know there are people much better than me... I look forward to seeing other strategies!
